About Biodiesel

Biofuel is much cleaner than fossil-fuel diesel (AKA dinodiesel).  It can be used in any diesel engine with no need for modifications - in fact diesel engines run better and last longer with biofuel.  Making biodiesel is easy and can be made from a common waste product - used cooking oil as well as many other fresh oils such as vegetable oil, palm oil etc.

Biodiesel is growing fast.  Biodiesel has been demonstrated to have significant environmental benefits in terms of decreased global warming impacts, reduced emissions, greater energy independence and a positive impact on agriculture.

Various studies have estimated that the use of 1 kg of biodiesel leads to the reduction of some 3 kg of CO2. Hence, the use of biodiesel results in a significant reduction in CO2 emission (65%-90% less than conventional diesel), particulate emissions and other harmful emissions. Biodiesel is extremely low in sulphur, and has a high lubricity and fast biodegradability. These are all advantages which have been confirmed by various EC Commission programmes and tests of independent research institutes.

Biodiesel has been produced on an industrial scale in the European Union since 1992, largely in response to positive signals from the EU institutions. Today, there are approximately 120 plants in the EU producing up to 6,100,000 tonnes of biodiesel annually. These plants are mainly located in Germany, Italy, Austria, France and Sweden.

As such, an increased use of biodiesel in Europe represents an important step for the European Union to meet its emission reduction target as agreed under the Kyoto agreement. Additionally reducing pollutant emissions alleviates various human health problems.

In specific cases, used vegetable oils can be recycled as feedstock for biodiesel production. This can reduce the loss of used oils in the environment and provides a competitive and CO² advantageous way of transforming a waste into transport energy.

Biodiesel Production
  • Biodiesel can be produced from any fat or vegetable oil, including waste cooking oil.

  • Making Biodiesel can be done easily and cheaply with the Biodiesel Experts International biodiesel reactors.

  • Making Biodiesel at home could save you up to 50% of your fuel bill.

  • Biofuel can be used in any diesel engine - with no modifications to the engine.

  • Biofuel can be mixed with ordinary diesel fuel in any proportion -- even a small amount of biodiesel means cleaner emissions and better engine lubrication: 1% biodiesel will increase lubricity by 65%.  Better lubrication means less engine wear.  Another benefit.

  • Fuel economy is the same as conventional diesel fuel.

  • Biofuel is a much better lubricant than conventional diesel fuel and extends engine life - a German truck won an entry in the Guinness Book of Records by travelling more than 1.25 million km (780,000 miles) on biodiesel with its original engine.

  • Biodiesel has a high cetane rating, which improves engine performance: 20% biodiesel added to conventional diesel fuel improves the cetane rating 3 points, making it a Premium fuel.

  • The flash point of biofuel in its pure form is more than >266 ºF versus approximately 125ºF for regular diesel.   This makes biodiesel much safer than diesel.
Biofuel and the Environment
  • Biodiesel fuel burns up to 75% cleaner than diesel fuel made from fossil fuels.

  • Bio diesel substantially reduces unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter in exhaust fumes.  Sulphur dioxide emissions are 100% eliminated (bio diesel contains no sulphur).

  • This alternative fuel is plant-based and adds absolutely no CO2 to the atmosphere.

  • Biofuel exhaust is not offensive and doesn't cause eye irritation.  Vehicles do not spew out vile black fumes/particulates.  In fact if you make your fuel from used cooking oil it may even smell of chips.

  • Biodiesel is environmentally friendly: it is renewable, "more biodegradable than sugar and less toxic than table salt" (US National Biodiesel Board).

  • Biodiesel was the first renewable fuel to successfully complete the EPA-required Health Effects Testing under the Clean Air Act. Mutagenicity studies show that biofuel dramatically reduces potential risks of cancer and birth defects.

  • Biodiesel helps preserve natural resources. For every unit of energy needed to produce biodiesel, 3.24 units of energy are gained - nearly four times more than diesel.

Biodiesel FAQ

The most frequent question we get asked is "are you the same company as BioKing or are you a re-seller of BioKing".  This infuriates us.  We are completely different and in no way associated with BioKing.  Our machines are of a significantly higher quality.  Our yields are higher, and our machines are much more robust.   We do not compete on cost; we prefer to make quality products and ship products on time.  We offer only products that exist, not fantasy products that get removed from our website after a few weeks.

Q:  Do you have any cost advantages over other machines?

A:  Yes.  Our methanol usage is lower than other people, because we use a closed reactor, high temperature and under heat.  This means that we can use 2-4% less methanol than our competition.  What this means to your bottom line is MORE PROFIT.  How much more?  Let's work a simple example.
With 1000 liters of oil to process, let's assume methanol is $130 for a 205 liter barrel.  This is $0.64 per liter.

Using 22% methanol, processing 1000 liters of oil will require 220 liters of methanol = (220*0.64) =

$ 139.51
Using 20%  methanol, processing 1000 liters of oil will require 200 liters of methanol = (200*0.64) =

$ 128.00
Using 18% methanol, processing 1000 liters of oil will require 180 liters of methanol = (180*0.64) =

$ 115.20

Our processors routinely operate at 18% methanol content.  So every 1000 liters you process will save you between $ 12.80 and $ 24.31.  Put it another way - if you want to produce 10,000 liters per week it could cost you up to $ 243.00 more PER WEEK to run with someone else's biodiesel kit.  In other words your Biodiesel Experts International biodiesel reactor could pay for itself in methanol savings alone.

Q: What percentage of oil is converted to biodiesel?

A: With our HIGH TEMPERATURE, PRESSURISED process we routinely exceed 98.5% conversion ratios.  These are the highest we have ever found in our market segment.  This has been audited in the USA by an NBB (National Biodiesel Board) auditor.  Many people tell us they achieve only 96% (and many below this).   What does this mean for your business?  Again, let us use 1000 liters of input oil as our basis.

98.5% conversion ratio means 1000 liters of input oil will generate 985 liters of biodiesel.
96% conversion ratio means 1000 liters of input oil will generate 960 liters of biodiesel.

So if you compare using the two systems above the Biodiesel Experts International reactor would generate an EXTRA 25 liter of biodiesel every 1000 liters produced.  Thus every 10,000 liters of input oil the Biodiesel Experts International reactor could generate 250 liters of additional biodiesel.  This means (assuming a profit of $0.40 per liter) an extra $ 100 of profit every 10,000 liters produced.  In business, where every penny counts, this is valuable income.

Q: Why does your machine produce such good biodiesel?

A: There are many reasons.  High temperature - this is known to make chemical processes happen faster and more effectively.  We process at well over the boiling point of methanol - which it has been calculated means that every 10 minutes of mixing time is equivalent to one hour of mixing at 55c.  In a nutshell when we mix for 30 minutes, others have to mix for three hours to get the same mix.  Not just that but our patented mixer unit generates massive turbulence and mixing.  One key to successful biodiesel production is the mixing.  Nobody does it better.

Q: Why don't you use water to wash your biodiesel?

A: Because we know other solutions to be better.  We recommend DRY washing - needing no water.  It is faster than water (approx. 1 hour to wash 1000 liters of biodiesel).  Anyone who knows biodiesel knows what issues there are with water.  In the UK using water is costly.  Some companies don't tell the truth about water washing and when asked about the water waste say "just put it down the drain and don't tell anyone".  This is ignorant advice.  The fines are huge.

Biodiesel Experts International recommend two ways of washing biodiesel without water - Magnesol and Purolite.  We are "technology neutral" as far as washing biodiesel goes.  Our unique range of biodiesel processors delivers ultra-high quality biodiesel, and then our superb range of washers makes sure the biodiesel is washed to perfection.
