Pre Treatment Of Oils
Minimize

Biodiesel Experts International Specializes in the pretreatment of oil before the Transesterification Process.  Certain oils such as WVO (waste vegetable oil), jatropha, palm, crude soy, caster bean and many more need to have some pretreatment so you are able to receive the highest possible yield in your transesterification process.

WATER AND SOLIDS REMOVAL

To ensure that your oil is ready for any chemical reaction we need to make sure that it is free of water and solids.  Biodiesel Experts International has the expertise and knowledge to do this quickly and efficiently.  This system will produce oil that is free of water and particulates.

This system is great for WVO, white grease, yellow grease, brown grease and any other oil or fat that has water and solids.

DEGUMMING

This process removes phospholipids (commonly called gums in the industry) from the incoming oil.  The gums can cause problems in the transesterification, not letting the reaction come to completion.  This will again cause a loss in yield.

This system is commonly used for Jatropha, palm, caster bean, soy, canola and many other virgin oils.

FREE FATTY ACID TREATMENT

Here at Biodiesel Experts International we offer a couple different methods for treating high FFA materials.  FFA’s need to be treated before the transesterification or they can cause soap formation and lead to under reacted material, again effecting yield.

Acid Esterification – This process treats the FFA’s and converts them to a Methyl Ester (biodiesel).  Once you have treated the FFA’s you move right on to your Transesterification.

Saponification – This process converts the FFA’s to soapstock.  This is commonly only used in very low FFA materials when is not economically feasible to do Acid Esterification.

These processes are used for all oils with 1% or more of FFA’s.  If you do not treat the FFA’s they will be a loss in yield.  For example if you have a 3% FFA material that will convert to a 5% or more loss in yield.  With the pretreatment steps you can recover that yield to biodiesel.
