Process in Reactors

Here we explain the basic process that is carried out to make biodiesel in our units, using vegetable oil and other renewable sources.  Please see below for more information on the background, description, controls and operation  of our biodiesel processors.

All our bio diesel reactors can produce fuel of EN 14214 standards.  This is a crucial standard; do not purchase any equipment that can not easily produce biodiesel of this quality.

Our Plants can easily be producing under BQ-9000 certification.

a) Background to Biodiesel Processors

  • Transesterification of vegetable oils results in GLYCEROL and fatty acid alkyl esters, commonly known as Biodiesel. Our bio diesel processing units have been designed for the specific purpose of transesterifying vegetable oils in the most effective way possible.
  • Our Biodiesel kits improve on the base process by incorporating high temperature, slight pressure, and a proprietary mixer.
  • Our focus is on QUALITY BIODIESEL.  Our "yield" is consistently over 98.5% - this is incredibly high.

b) Description of our Biodiesel Units

  • Our biodiesel units operate under pressure, are electrically heated, have a proprietary mixer and make 400 liters / 800 liters / 1600 liters of biodiesel per hour and  2400 liters/ 3200 liters per 60-70 min, depending on the machine you select for your biodiesel project.
  • Pressure and temperature controls are provided. 
  • Safety cut outs are part of the machine (thermal and pressure).
  • Construction is in stainless steel.  Construction complies with CE standards for industrial and ambient safety.
  • Our biodiesel units do not generate effluents.  They are sealed, vented safely and fumes contained.
  • Our biodiesel plants all ship with full biodiesel safety equipment included in the price.
  • We do NOT use water in our units or washers.  This saves time and money, whilst at the same time giving much better results.  
    Please remember though you will be dealing with some nasty/dangerous chemicals. 
    SAFETY MUST ALWAYS BE YOUR NUMBER ONE CONCERN.

C) Biodiesel Processor controls and instrumentation

  • Alcohol (methanol or methanol) and vegetable oil are fed into the unit through separate circuits with dedicated valves.
  • The catalyst is fed into the unit through a separate wide mouth valve.
  • Our biodiesel units have MINIMAL PLASTIC and no PTFE joints.  Construction is 99% steel.
  • Our cost effective biodiesel reactors are designed for safety and designed to last a minimum of ten years with minimal maintenance.

D) Biodiesel Processor Operation

  • Methanol / ethanol is fed into the unit, and the mixer is started then the catalyst is then added 
  • Once the Methoxide is ready, the oil is fed into the unit. 
  • Venting is closed off, the unit is pressurized, and high temperature is applied. 
  • Once the blending cycle is complete, pressure is maintained during the settling of the glycerol and the esters.  The process of making the biodiesel is over approx. 30 minutes after the final reaction temperature is reached. 
  • Now you have to wait for the settling process to take place or move the biodiesel into a separate settling tank and make another batch.
  • The glycerol is removed first, and then the biodiesel is pumped out.
  • The whole process can start again.  Simple and VERY cost effective.

This method of making biodiesel is incredibly efficient with conversion ratios of over 98.5% being common to our users across the globe.  The better the quality of the input oil, the better the quality of the biodiesel generated.  BUT our process is the best there is - and because of the physics and chemistry involved with out machine the mix is the best here is.  In fact test has proven that mixing for just 40 minutes with our mixer is the equivalent to THREE HOURS in a conventional mixer.  BETTER MIXING MEANS BETTER BIO.  WE PROMOTE ONLY HIGH QUALITY BIODIESEL.

What do you do with glycerin waste?  We have the solution.  Heat your warehouse / home / swimming pool (or someone else's).  Our glycerin burners are perfect for disposing of glycerin waste without pollution.

E) Washing Your Biodiesel

  • Water poses a major danger to biodiesel engines. Putting water into biodiesel for washing purposes is not recommended by Biodiesel Experts International. We only recommend "dry washing" using Magnesol. Magnesol is a remarkable product which helps you to make biodiesel to EN14214 or ASTM standard with ease.
  • You can also use ION Exchange Resin.  This remarkable product is reusable and can be regenerated.  All you have to do is run "dirty" biodiesel through the beads and come out with ASTM biodiesel! Ion Exchange Towers

BACKGROUND

Transesterification of vegetable oils by means of an alcoholisis results in GLYCEROL and fatty acid alkyl esters, commonly known as BIODIESEL. Our BIO processing units have been designed for the specific purpose of transesterifying vegetable oils through alcoholisis, using our improved biodiesel process protocol. 

 

Our Biodiesel units improve on the commonly used process by incorporating high temperature, slight pressure, and a proprietary mixer. No standard process can even come close to achieving the quality and production levels that our enhanced process achieves.

 

DESCRIPTION

Our biodiesel units operate under pressure, are electrically heated, have a proprietary mixer, and make great biodiesel in approximately one hour. Pressure and temperature controls are provided. There are numerous safety devices on the machines, and they are designed with ATEX (European Union explosion proof regulations) in mind.

 

Construction is in top quality stainless steel. Construction complies with CE standards for industrial and ambient safety and is of the highest standards. 

 

Our biodiesel units do not generate effluents. They are sealed, and methanol fumes are vented or recovered with our optional Methanol recovery unit.

CONTROLS AND INSTRUMENTATION

Methanol and vegetable oil are fed into the unit through separate circuits with dedicated valves. The fill level is controlled by a fuel measurement meter. Caustic soda is fed into the unit through a separate wide mouth valve. Many people prefer to purchase a separate Methoxide mixer, and of course Biodiesel Experts International supplies these units.

 

The biodiesel reaction itself is precisely controlled by a digital thermometer. 

 

Our biodiesel units have MINIMAL PLASTIC and no PTFE joints. Construction is 99% stainless steel. We are so confident in our quality we offer a 10 year defect free guarantee on the stainless steel components of the reactor. 

 

The Biodiesel Experts International biodiesel reactors are designed for safety and designed to last a minimum of twenty years with minimal maintenance. An annual safety check is recommended, and the comprehensive operations manual is designed to make making biodiesel safe, simple, and effective.

 

OPERATION

Methanol is fed into the unit, and the mixer is started then the catalyst is then added. 

 

Once the Methoxide is ready, the oil is fed into the unit. Venting is closed off and temperature is applied.

 

Once the blending cycle is complete, pressure is maintained during the settling of the glycerol and the esters. The process of making the biodiesel is over after approx. 60 minutes. 

 

Now you have to wait for the settling process to take place this “phase separation” makes sure that the glycerol and biodiesel are clearly separated. The settling process can take place either a dedicated settling vessel or with one of our unique high speed centrifuges. All our processors can be easily emptied in under 5 minutes by selecting an appropriately sized pump.

 

If all the parameters are met for the reactor you can make one batch of biodiesel every hour of the day.

 

The Biodiesel Experts International method of making biodiesel is incredibly efficient with conversion ratios of over 98.5% being common to our users across the globe. This means if you put in 100 liters of vegetable oil, you will get out 98.5 liters of biodiesel. We have never seen any other machine of this class that comes close.

 

The machine can use many different type of feedstock: waste cooking oil, palm oil (RBD/OLEIN), soy, cotton, Jatropha and rape seed are feedstock’s that have been tried and tested. We have also tested the machines with ethanol, and again the results were excellent.

BIODIESEL CENTRIFUGES

Specifically designed for the biodiesel production market. Liquid to liquid separation for biodiesel and glycerin, and biodiesel and wash water. Centrifuges drastically speed up the process of making biodiesel. No settling of your end product, simply centrifuge to ensure your biodiesel is as glycerin free as it would be with 24 hours settling in a matter of seconds. These units create up to 40,000 times the effect of gravity whilst still being very simple to operate, cost effective to buy and cheap to run.

 

 

 


 

 

 

BIODIESEL WASHING

Washing biodiesel is an essential part of the process.  There are two main ways of washing biodiesel, and Biodiesel Experts International supplies equipment to support them both.

 

WATER WASH.

Simple and effective, water washing is the de-facto standard in many operations. Drawbacks include the cost of water adds a higher requirement for drying the biodiesel.

 

DRY WASH.

Dry washing biodiesel has

2 main methods, using either adsorbent powder or an ion exchange resin. Both of these methods have advantages and disadvantages,

BIODIESEL FILTRATION UNITS

Produce EN14214 / ASTM Biodiesel with ease. Producing clean fuel within the established standards will ensure your engines will run for longer and potential warranty claims are neutralized. The Biodiesel Experts International biodiesel filters are fitted with SDFC-K filters that are specifically designed to work with biodiesel.

 

These filters can remove dirt down to ONE micron and up to 1600mL of water per element. The Biodiesel Experts International biodiesel filtration system will filter up to 3000L per hour. It is designed to work in a multi-pass off line situation i.e. after washing the biodiesel and after adequate settling processes. 

 

This biodiesel filter is rated for continual use and can be left to filter the storage tank to allow the SDFC-K to really get to work! The magnificent units should be considered almost essential for any commercial producer. Eliminate water and impurities in your final product.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BIODIESEL FEEDSTOCKS

Biodiesel Experts International as invested heavily in making sure that our machines can process every feedstock we have seen.

 

So far we have processed: rapeseed, canola, soy, coconut, tallow, algae, used cooking oils, palm olein, RBD palm, cotton oil, Jatropha, white grease, chicken fat, yellow grease etc.

 

In addition to investment in machinery, we also work closely to those who invest in the feedstock’s themselves, with their own algae racetracks and jatropha plantations.

 

This investment ensures that not only will our biodiesel equipment remain at the top of the tree, but the feedstock will be made available to our clients at preferential rates as it comes on stream.
